Eco Tourist Destination

Dobson House sits at 7,000 feet on a 100 foot hill in a rift valley overlooking the Rio Grande Gorge, near natural hot springs. All around, there are mountains and desert. The Dobson House has been rated one of the world's ten best alternative energy tourism sites by Discovery Channel's Travel unit and was featured as an eco tourist destination in the July/August 2005 issue of Eco Structure Magazine. We offer luxurious accommodations and superb food. We serve a full breakfast and refreshments in the afternoon. Wake up to hot coffee or tea outside your door. Begin your day with juice, fresh fruit, Mexican baked eggs served with chicken apple sausage and Texas pecan biscuits or cornmeal cakes with applewood smoked bacon. Fresh rhubarb rolls, peach muffins, sweet potato pone, and ricotta cheese pancakes are more of the cook's specialties. Afternoon refreshments include local goat cheeses, focaccia, fresh fruit and assorted beverages. The house is a 6,000 square foot solar adobe with natural adobe walls and stone floors. It is furnished in a comfortable southwestern style, and features the owners' contemporary art collection. Breakfast is served overlooking the gorge in the 1600 square foot common room, which is circular and surrounded by glass. You can walk to gorge and down the old stagecoach trail to Manby Hot Springs on the river. Guests are welcome anytime in the common room - it's great for bird watching or just looking at the mountains.
